Almourol Visitor’s Centre “Sala dos Templários”

The Castelo de Almourol, an old fortress built in the 12th century by the Order of the Knights Templar is situated on an island inside the river tejo. The castelo needs an information centre showing the history of the temple order and allowing visitors to get to know the history of this building and expanding their knoweledge of the Order of the Knights Templar and the Order of Christ integrated in the “Templar Route”.
The proposed building allows a framed promenade with a view to the castle. It integrates the path that connects the neighbouring towns and it relates to the castle in every space. The building is also a starting point for oat trips and for the Tejo sports parcour. The boat line connecting Abrantes to Barquinha would have one of its stops here.
